With a brilliant marketing move to tackle a remake of a setback, Universal Pictures, a writer Eric Heisserer (Nightmare on Elm St. remake of Final Destination, and 5) and director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., cleverly done is approached from a different angle. While everyone would tell you otherwise, this is a remake of the prequel 2011-1952 is the thing from another world, is technically the predecessor of what happened in 1982, a masterpiece Thing by John Carpenter. We have that straight? For many reasons Carpenter movie monster paranoia is still one of my favorite horror movie of all time. Go to the screening, I knew the horror classic will not be less than the first director. That's why you need to remind yourself while watching this film: It 'just a prequel. It 'just a prequel. It 'just a prequel. But, it still seems like a remake?
The film opens in one of the best series of films. Three men in exchange jokes in the ATV snow radar echo of a constant beep when approaching their destination. When men think they are a source of a strange signal is buried in the collapse of Antarctic ice in a deep well of his car, which reveals the spacecraft buried at the bottom. Why am I stuck in two blocks of ice 1982 logo appears slowly Thing blue light. This is a fitting end well implemented series, but also gives us the first impression that this film will share many similarities with its predecessor. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Death Proof, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) plays a paleontologist Kate Lloyd. He asked Dr. Sander Halvorson and his assistant to find a scientific study to give an Antarctic snow.
Together the team bearded Norwegian (I think it's the law in Norway), and a handful of other Americans, as a helicopter pilot, Carter Braxton (John Edgerton), three shifts base to learn from their mandate. In addition to the spacecraft, the crew reveals the great tentacled alien encased in ice. Being aware of the team breaks out of the lab one night leads to hunting in the snow. One of the men may be made by the creature before the men have to turn the flames of prey. Just looking at the creature that they will learn who has the power to mimic the cellular structure of any creature comes into contact with. As a result, a tense thriller by the research team trys to reveal who is actually infected by the alien.
If all this sounds familiar you've seen John Carpenter's version which says almost thirty years. There's a reason why this story of paranoia leads can still have the power to sink into their world, after all this time. Not knowing who to trust and not be able to see the real culprit until it is too late is an effective trope of horror that has been studied for years. Add some surprising results show that the creature is transformed literally every one of his victims, and has a classic horror film. Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. 's prequel knows and realizes some of the feelings of tension that is felt when looking at its predecessor. Management of the claustrophobic atmosphere of fear and time can be applauded. If nothing else, this film illustrates the fact that this man should have a bright future for horror fans scare the coming years. Unfortunately, the tools available are as boring as the ice is cold. The main culprit is the script.
The most obvious appeal to fans of old school horror gripe is that the CGI is abundant. As Carpenter's film, this is a slow burn, a film that takes its time showing a shocking change. After a few successful practical effects that recall the beginning of the extraordinary work of Rob Bottin, the CGI kicks with mixed results. Most of the time, it is unfortunately below average, the best is the iconic face of assimilation which is found in the American team. Effects to show some of the horrific images that allow fans to smile, but the cringe factor tangibility and there is never enough. This is a factor that leaves many fans of previous disasters.
The disappointment is the best way to describe the 2011 version of the Thing. A strict management and skilled labor is left out in the cold, a thin paper CGI scripts and poor. The horror younger fans, this prequel might surprise and amaze based on knowledge and Carpenter version or not. We hope that this will encourage them to try, if they have not already. Prequel thing for the overall experience left me feeling that is rarely attempted to set himself out of a prequel. Besides the final, which goes to the spacecraft, which was only briefly seen in Carpenter's film, The thing is more than enough for a remake of an exceptionally original. Prequel or a remake. . . It does not matter. Thing (2011) still stand as a director tries his darnedest to get their voices heard among the rattling sounds of numerous Hollywood remakes and tries to calm both studies challenging and cheering fans. Unfortunately, this fan has lost in the snow.

The prequel: how well do the same version of John Carpenter?
A clip costs Matthijs van Heijningen Jr film suggests, it can not do justice bloody brilliant version of 1982
The thing made
Science beard ... Joel Edgerton (left) stars Thing prequel, starring Kurt Russell John Carpenter's 1982 remake of the 1951 original
The Thing, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr coming prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 cult horror / science fiction, an alien hybrid creature with the ability to imitate life on Earth, is still a bit followed by a film of the 80 , not exactly set the box office on fire at the time of release. His arrival is not more logical, however, that last year Tron Legacy or later the remake of Conan cheap and gay. She at least examine the events offered in movies Carpenter, and the opportunity to examine one of the scariest real devices in the history of horror.
The first thing
2. Year built: 2011
3. Country: USA
4. Starring: Eric Christian Olsen, Joel Edgerton, Mary Elizabeth Winstead
5. More on this film
It seems strange that the last decade has been low-coat, and slasher films like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the thirteenth, when the protagonists of all three combined could not hold that the hatchet is a hateful thing of brilliance. Compared to the sight of a man with his mouth open Decapitated heads sprout spider legs and run around on the floor, Freddie, Jason and Michael look around, as disturbing as the episode of Bodger and Badger. Remake-o-phobes can not really complain, either, because it was originally (albeit loose) revision of the Howard Hawks / Christian Nyby 1952 sci-fi Potboiler Thing from Another World (both based in Novella 1938 Who's there? John W. Campbell, Jr., 1982 version is much closer to the source material).
The creation of Carpenter is still cool today, thanks to Rob Bottin and designers of the effects of Stan Winston, who created images of horror that the body repulsive stubbornly stick in the mind. It is amusing to note that contemporary critics dismissed the film for being too reliant on special effects at the expense of human drama, in comparison with their modern successors, it seems not everyone is short on dialogue.
A clip costs of the new version is my coat to show films Heijningen Jr., this week, but it's not exactly bode well. Instead comes from abroad so unbearably slow and ugly on the carcass of a dog, as it does in one of the most spectacular sequences in film monster Heijningen Carpenter seems to explode fully formed from the block of ice, where he was discovered by a group of American and Norwegian scientists on a research facility remote Antarctic
The transformation of a movie that has come to an upset stomach sensations prosaic spectators Jumpy slasher fare is not only a mistake but an insult to the legacy 1982 horrible, especially when modern CGI effects should be an opportunity for claims more inventive protests.
Let us hope for something more imaginative that awaits us when the movie comes out in cinemas in the UK in December (next month in the U.S.) because Heijningen Jr has a real opportunity here to make an addition Canon interesting. The cast is solid, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Animal Kingdom is so hot right now Joel Edgerton heading things, and the trailer full of July sees something more positive. (About Winstead, it's time in this series had a female point of view:. The character of the most prominent women in Carpentersville film was the voice of chess computers)
On the other hand, Heijningen Jr. is not one thing was tree, Carpenter, better known as a leader in car ads. As my colleague, Phelim O'Neill, recently said of this unique, Hollywood is not exactly what it was in 1982.
the thing remake
The hype generator surrounding Universal’s pricey remake/reimagining/whatever of John Carpenter’s 1982 chiller “The Thing” (itself a remake of 1951’s “The Thing From Another World”) has been on the fritz lately. We first got a fairly impressive look at the movie way back at last year’s New York Comic Con. At that point the film was scheduled for an April 29th, 2011 bow, before getting pushed back considerably to the more Halloween-friendly slot of October 14th, 2011. While this new release date is right around the corner, only one trailer and a single mysterious poster for the flick had surfaced in recent months (though we’re just happy it’s a Halloween release that doesn’t feature home video footage of ghosts). Well, the hype generator seems to have been reengaged, with MTV (via Coming Soon) debuting the first stand alone clip from the movie.
The incredibly brief clip (it clocks in at a whopping 46 seconds) shows Adewale “Don’t Call Me Mr. Eko” Akinnuoye-Agbaje, playing American helicopter pilot Derek Jameson, investigating the ice coffin of the titular shape-shifting beast. He wipes away a layer of frost before getting the bejeezus scared out of him by a fellow crewmember (it looks to us like a bearded Stig Henrik Hoff, but he appears and disappears so quickly it’s sort of hard to tell). Since this is a horror movie clip, designed for maximum shock, moments later the ice coffin erupts, the intergalactic creature escaping (loudly) through the ceiling.
While this glimpse is far too short to leave any real impression, it is worth noting that back at Comic Con, the film’s director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. swore up, down, and sideways about how much of the movie’s monster would be realized using practical physical effects (mostly puppets). In this clip, though, the ice coffin has that distinctively phony shimmer of computer effects, and when the monster makes its debut it looks entirely computer generated, a dangle of legs (or perhaps tentacles). One only needs to look to “Attack the Block,” whose ferocious creatures were almost wholly practical, to see how scary puppets can be.
We remain, based on the hazy memories from Comic Con, cautiously optimistic about this one – it’s got a cool, multi-culti cast (including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton and Ulrich Thomsen) and unlike most prequels, has a story mysterious enough to merit further investigation. We just hope that once we get a good look at the monster it’ll be more physical and less computer-y. We’ll know soon enough.
